Firefox has a market share of up to 20 percent in Europe - Click rates are on the increase again

Finland is the Firefox country in Europe. A fifth of all Finnish users are online with this open-source browser. The market share across Europe is at around ten percent. As the temperatures rise, so do the number of clicks.

06/27/2005, Dreieich, ADTECH AG - The Finns really love Firefox. Over a fifth of all Finnish users navigate with it through the web. 15 percent of all German internet users are also already convinced by this open-source browser from Mozilla. By contrast, with less than four percent of the market Firefox is still a genuine niche browser in Italy. "Europe wide, Firefox has conquered a market share of ten percent. However, its use within the individual European countries varies a great deal", says Dirk Freytag, chairman of ADTECH AG. In spite of the rapid spreading of the alternative browser since the late summer of last year, Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) 6.x continues to dominate the market.

As the summer temperatures rise, so do the number of clicks. After the collapse of the user reaction at the beginning of the year, the figures have recovered slightly. However, with an average of 0.27 percent they are still far below the November values. Firefox users distinguish themselves consistently by having the lowest click rate of 0.12 percent. .

For its regular browser analyses, ADTECH evaluates the banner enquiries from the whole of Europe to its own Adserver. The present data has been collected for the first half of June for 2,000 websites. Several billion of banner enquires were evaluated, which were transferred from the browser of the user to the Adserver, which then evaluated these for the subsequent banner delivery.

Browser distribution and click rates can vary according to website, day of the week and time of day. ADTECH wants to use its browser analyses to show trends, rather than determine the absolute figures.
